Dulce de Leche

Ingredients:

1 cup heavy cream
2 cups whole milk
¾ cup sugar
¼ teaspoon baking soda
1 vanilla bean

 

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in a heavy sauce pan and bring to a boil.  Reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for 3 hours, stirring occasionally.  After 3 hours, remove lid and cook another 30 minutes until it is thick and spreadable when cooled slightly.  Remove and discard the vanilla bean.
