Chocolate Dream Cake
(also known as Texas Sheet Cake)

Ingredients:

2 C flour                                             
2 C sugar                                            
½ C (1 stick) butter or margarine
½ C shortening
1 C water
¼ C cocoa
½ C buttermilk (or 1 T vinegar in ½ milk; let stand 5 minutes)
2 eggs slightly beaten
1 tsp soda
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp cinnamon

 

Directions:

Put flour and sugar in mixing bowl; mix well.  Bring to rapid boil in saucepan the butter, shortening, water and cocoa; pour over flour-sugar mixture and mix well.  Combine remaining ingredients and add all at once to batter, mixing well.  Pour into greased, lightly floured 13” x 9” pan and back at 350o F for 35-40 minutes or until it looks done.

DREAM FROSTING

½ C (1 stick) butter or margarine
3 ½ T cocoa
1/3 C milk
1 lb powdered sugar (sifted)
1 tsp vanilla
2/3 C chopped pecans

Combine margarine, cocoa and milk in saucepan; beat slowly and bring to a boil.  Add remaining ingredients; beat well and spread over cake while it is still warm.  Leave cake in pan until ready to serve.  Cut in squares.
